Things to do First

These are basic administrative activities that are not specific to any course, and are to form an important part of the new way in which I wish to present these courses. Please let me know if you find any sort of error or mistake of any variety.

  1. Web Addresses

    Website address - http://rhoadley.net

There are also the following helpful easy to remember links:

    Composing and Improvising 1 - http://rhoadley.net/cimp/
    Creative Music Programming - rhoadley.net/cmc2a
Circuit Bending, Hardware Hacking - rhoadley.net/cbhh
    Sensor Technology - rhoadley.net/stech
    Sonic Art - rhoadley.net/sonicart
    The Courses Index - rhoadley.net/courses

Depending on your browser's settings and functioning, you may need to include the characters "http://" in front of the above. If you have difficulty with the 'rhoadley.net' site, just put "http://rhoadley.net/cgi/courses/", input the password and follow the relevant links.

During week one, (and two, if necessary) I need to gather the following information:

  2. Email

    • I intend that most communications that occur throughout the courses should be electronic in nature, either through email, or through this site. This will ideally include the return of feedback to you, if I can organise this in time. Therefore the first thing I require is one, reliable email address on an account that you can guarantee to check at least once a week, and preferably every couple of days. As a number, and ideally all of these courses have a performance element, and as the Music Department and the Studios have an emphasis on and a record of live performance, it is often useful for those undertaking courses to be able to contact each other. I would ask, therefore, whether you are prepared to allow me to include a 'live' email link to your email account, or your email address itself (it's really the same thing) to appear on the site. Bear in mind that there is some, although not especially powerful, security to the courses area.

Could you therefore send me an email, to richard.hoadley*@*anglia.ac.uk, including an indication of whether you are prepared to have your email address available in this area. Needless to say, please include your 'real' name as well in case the email address is obscure in this respect.

    • N.B. Please include the name of the course in the subject of your email.

    • I would also appreciate details such as an address and telephone number, although of course these are not obligatory and will under no circumstances be made public here or anywhere else.

    • For information, I would like to know what access to computer/internet resources you have and how satisfactory this access is. One of the difficult decisions about using the internet for the delivery of courses is knowing when the right time is, especially bearing in mind people's access. In my estimation, we are currently on the cusp of the situation where most people will find it possible to get reasonable access, but I need to know how it goes.

  3. Website Security

    • In order to access some areas of this site, including the course materials, you will have to use a password. This is for security of information and in some cases copyright issues. You are entitled to a password if you are a registered student enrolled on one of these courses. If the browser you are using is able to use and store cookies, you will only need to input the password every ten days or so. This is so you do not forget the password. If you do forget the password email me: richard.hoadley*@*anglia.ac.uk. If you are not registered or enrolled and just want to have a look, again, email me - richard.hoadley*@*anglia.ac.uk - and I'll see what I can do.
