Basic audio recording and playback

Media browser

Using the sample editor
- Open Logic Pro X/Preferences/Advanced Tools...
- Make sure that 'Show Advanced Tools' and Additional Options/Audio are both checked
- Record a sound, choose a sound from the Media browser or import a sound file.
- Note it's your sound's location wherever you discovered it
- Listen to it in place
- Open it in the sample editor ('Sample Editor' button or ctrl-click for new window) 
- Investigate the horizontal and vertical zoom buttons in both project and sample editor windows
- Put another version of the file in another track
- Open it in the sample editor
- Click on the 'file' tab
- Reverse the file: Choose 'functions/reverse'
- Mute the first track (click 'M')
- Note that all instances of the file are reversed
- If you want both 'versions' you need to save a copy as...
- Turn looping on and off...

Cutting, copying, moving, pasting, looping

Cutting
- Click with scissors tool - double click with command key
- Split happens at 'snap' position
- Note that the split create a record of the split in relation to the original file
- It doesn't create a new file
- alt-drag creates new instances of the file
- copy/convert to create a new copy of the file which can then be re-edited

- When you drag and drop where the edit 'lands' will depend on the 'drag' setting
After a number of cuts, note the Media browser 'bin'

Joining
- Use the 'glue' tool
- Select all parts and 'glue'
- You may be asked to create a new file for this purpose

Loops
- Choose some loops, such as strings/academy cello, viola, violin 1 and 2
- Note that as loops you have very limited ability to edit
- However you can mix
- Note the inspector and the control strips
- Introduce some simple plug-ins and add to both individual channels as well as to the whole mix


Saving your material and creating a 'bounce'
- Save as... incremental versions?
- Check the length of your project!
- File/Bounce...
- Save as high rate mp3
